IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES! |
Students will:
Be exposed to a variety of dramatic techniques by accomplished teachers and practitioners
Participate in formal and informal productions by applying theatrical skills, knowledge, and terminology
Gain an appreciation for the arts and its role as a social tool
All Generation PT objectives are aligned with both Maryland and National Theatre Standards.
First Generation (ages 5-8)
Open a magic box filled with wonder and fantasy. Using theatre games, movement, song, and storytelling, students will experience the world of make-believe. By exploring their creativity, students will develop skills in listening, confidence, cooperation, and physical & vocal expression.
Second Generation (ages 9-11)
This class involves students in the world of performing arts through the excitement of theatre games and creative dramatics. Fluency of ideas, confidence, and creativity will develop. As part of students' social application, they will create short, original scenes based on real-life situations and ideas suggested by current events.
Third Generation (ages 12-14)
In this class students will learn the fundamentals of acting, while being asked to tap into their emotional availability. The process will lead to rehearsing and presenting dramatic, challenging scenes and monologues from a variety of well-known plays, giving participants an opportunity to create unique and truthful characters and understand the playwright's intentions. Special focus will be given to plays that and playwrights who explore art as activism.
Fourth Generation (ages 15 and up)
Students in this class learn to analyze a script while continuing to develop a basic acting technique. At this level, more exercises will also be introduced that model the PROGRESS technique and process. Students will heighten their dramatic skills while learning the cooperation needed to function as an ensemble onstage. To gain a deeper social awareness, there will be a focus on identity and students' role in the society around them. As an ongoing project, students will create identity projects that will explore, define, and complicate their identities.
Fifth Generation (students must audition AND have prior theatre training)
This class designed for advanced students will use improvisation and creative writing exercises in order for students to devise original characters, stories, and scenes. Students will study the acting and writing processes as they craft and perform provocative and insightful original one-act plays about the worlds they live in.
